HL Deb 25 July 1983 vol 443 c1416WA
Lord Avebury

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will publish a descriptive list of all the data fields contained in the computer records relating to individual persons in England, Wales and Scotland respectively, and, where the content of a field is a coded value whether they will list all the possible values which the field can contain, together with the interpretation of the codes.

The Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster (Lord Cockfield)

No; there is no central list held at present, and the information required could only be collected at disproportionate cost. The noble lord will be aware of the provisions of the Data Protection Bill which govern the registration of data users and the right of access to personal data.
