§ 60. Mr. Macmillanasked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will introduce legislation to prohibit action by members of trades unions of newspapers employees to prevent the publication of particular articles, advertisements or comments.
§ Mr. GummerIndustrial action to prevent the publication of particular articles, advertisements or comments in newspapers is already unlawful if it is taken in breach of employment contracts. Those organising the action would be acting unlawfully if, as seems likely, they were not acting in contemplation of furtherance of a trade dispute. The Employment Act 1982 significantly reduced the scope of lawful trade disputes and made unions themselves liable to be sued if they organised unlawful industrial action.
