§ Mr. Simsasked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will provide details of local authorities' housing capital expenditure and capital receipts in 1982–83.
§ Mr. GowGross capital expenditure on housing by local authorities in England in 1982–83 is estimated to be about £2,400 million. This represents an underspend of some £800 million compared to the total resources available to authorities for housing investment last year. Authority-by-authority figures showing expenditure in relation to HIP allocations and to allocations plus housing capital receipts are given in tables which I am today placing in the Library. These tables include details of additional allocations of £195 million, including retrospective allocations of £64 million for expenditure on home improvement grants, as a result of the initiatives taken by my right hon. Friend the then Secretary of State54W for the Environment last October to encourage local authorities to make greater use of the resources available to them.
