§ 30. Sir David Priceasked the Under-Secretary of State answering in respect of the arts what progress is being made towards the transfer of the British Library from the British Museum building to its new site at Somers Town.
§ Mr. WaldegraveWork began on the first phase of the British Library building in April 1982. This is a substantial project, and none of the new building will be available for occupation until, at the earliest, the end of the decade. The British Library will then be able to start to transfer its services and collections from the British Museum and a number of other buildings.
