Mr. Hannam

asked the Secretary of State for Energy whether he will make a statement about the meeting of the European Communities Council of Energy Ministers on 12 July.

Mr. Peter Walker

I represented the United Kingdom at this meeting. The meeting discussed the Commission's proposals on a number of matters, particularly the proposals to increase the use of solid fuels within the Community.

No conclusions were reached and discussions will continue at a further meeting of the Council of Ministers in September.
