§ Mrs. Renée Shortasked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will assess the effect of withdrawing the present guaranteed quantities of thiamin from flour will have on the health of the elderly and on (a) men and (b) women suffering diet related diseases.
§ Mr. John PattenThe Department's medical advisers do not anticipate that, in the context of a varied diet, there would be any measurable effect upon the health of the elderly or any other group if thiamin were not restored to white flour to the amount found naturally in brown flour.
