§ Mr. Montgomeryasked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if he will seek to meet the north of England regional consortium to discuss the future of the tourist industry.
§ Mr. Norman Lamont[pursuant to the reply, 6 July 1983, c. 103]: The review of tourism policy provided an opportunity for widespread consultations with interested authorities and organisations. Many presented their views, including the north of England regional consortium, the Greater Manchester council and Manchester city council. It is not my intention to hold further consultations as that stage of the review has been completed, but I shall be carefully studying the evidence received before reaching any conclusions on the future structure and emphasis of Government support to tourism. I hope to make an announcement before the summer recess.
