§ Mr. Wheelerasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what is the contribution from the taxpayer towards the funding of the Thames flood barrier; and whether any arrangements have been made for an official opening.
§ Mrs. FennerIt is estimated that whey finally completed the Thames barrier will cost £446 million, of 125W which £338 million will be provided from Exchequer funds. The Greater London council are responsible for the barrier and it would make the arrangements for an official opening. Although the barrier was operable in November 1982, some construction work has still to be completed and contractors are not expected to leave the site before spring 1984.
