§ Mr. Proctorasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will call for a report from the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis concerning incidents of public disorder which occurred outside Stoke Newington police station on Monday and Tuesday 17 and 18 January 1983; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. MayhewWe understand from the Commissioner that on Monday 17 January about 80 people took part in a demonstration outside the police station calling for a public inquiry into the death of Mr. Colin Roach at the station on 12 January. There was some disorder, and 19 people were arrested and charged with offences of assault, obstruction or the use of insulting behaviour. One police officer was injured. The Commissioner has no reports of disorder outside the station on Tuesday 18 January. An inquest into Mr. Roach's death has opened.
