HC Deb 27 January 1983 vol 35 c511W
Mrs. Knight

asked the Secretary of State for Defence if he will urge the co-ordination of defence and disarmament policies of member countries of the Western European Union through the framework of that organisation.

Mr. Blaker

The security of Europe is the concern of all members of NATO and therefore it is the Government's view that the Alliance should remain the principal body in which detailed discussion of defence and disarmament policies takes place. However, the WEU assembly has an important role to play in promoting understanding of the defence policies of its member nations.
