Mr. Arnold

asked the Minister for Trade (1) pursuant to the answer to the hon. Member for Hazel Grove on 23 December, Official Report, c. 646, concerning monitoring of voluntary arrangements applied by Japanese industries to their exports, which industries keep Her Majesty's Government informed about trends;

(2) pursuant to the answer to the hon. Member for Hazel Grove on 23 December, Official Report, c. 646, which industries are monitored by the similar checks by his Department on voluntary arrangements applied by Japanese industries to their exports.

Mr. Peter Rees

Discussions on the state of the United Kingdom market take place between United Kingdom industries and their Japanese counterparts about the following products: motor vehicles, televisions and music centres, pottery, cutlery, numerically controlled machine tools and fork lift trucks. My Department keeps a careful watch on imports from Japan in each of these sectors.
