§ Mr. Wardellasked the Secretary of State for Wales how many neo-natal intensive care cots are available in west Glamorgan; how the provision of such facilities in west Glamorgan per 1,000 live births compares with that in Wales; and whether he will improve facilities in the Principality.
§ Mr. Wyn RobertsIntensive care for neonates in west Glamorgan is provided in the special care baby units at Morriston and Neath general hospitals. I understand that there are 31 special care cots in these units.
As I indicated in my reply to the hon. Member of 22 December, the facilities available for intensive care at such units vary. The Welsh Office does not keep a full and up-to-date record of all neonatal intensive care facilities.
434WThe Welsh Office is giving active consideration to the steps needed to improve further the standard of perinatal and neonatal care.—[Vol. 34, c. 560.]
