§ Mr. Cartwrightasked the Secretary of State for Transport what steps he is taking to evaluate the benefits of a greater use of liquid petroleum gas by road vehicles.
§ Mrs. Chalker[pursuant to her reply, 25 January 1983]: Alternative fuels for road vehicles, including liquid petroleum gas, are assessed periodically by officials of my Department. the availability of LPG and its use in road vehicles is expected to increase, particularly among fleet operators. However, the total amount likely to be available, together with the limited retail distribution network and the cost of converting vehicles, means that LPG will probably remain a marginal transport fuel in this country.
