§ Mr. Hooleyasked the Secretary of State for Transport how many civil servants will be made redundant in the Yorkshire and Humberside region as a result of the privatisation of heavy goods vehicle testing stations.
§ Mr. David HowellNo final decision has yet been taken on the exact numbers and grades of staff required under the privatised testing system and in the residual departmental organisation. The proposals will be available soon and will be discussed with the trade unions. The total work-load is not likely to contract and, whilst some people may have to move to a new location, I would expect, on the basis of information available at this stage, that those concerned would be given the opportunity of finding jobs in one of the two organisations.
