§ Mr. RidleyProvisional estimates for 1982–83 suggest that around £11.5 billion income tax is due in a full year from single people or married couples with income less than average male earnings for all occupations and around £8.5 billion from those with incomes less than average male manual earnings; these amounts represent respectively 37 per cent. and 28 per cent.—revised—of the total income tax due in a full year.
