HL Deb 22 February 1983 vol 439 c744WA
Lord Melchett

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether, in view of the Secretary of State for Scotland's decision to refuse planning permission for ski-developments in the Northern Conies of the Cairngorms, and of the statement of the manager of the Cairngorm Chairlift Company reported in the press of 20th November 1982 that if this development was turned down, then the company could afford to complete the day lodge on Cairn Gorm itself, the Highland and Islands Development Board or the Government are still considering providing finance for this development, and, if so, whether grant-aid will be provided at normal rates.

The Minister of State, Scottish Office (The Earl of Mansfield)

I cannot comment on the reported statements of representatives of private companies. However, I can confirm that discussions are taking place between the Highlands and Islands Development Board and my department about the day lodge development. No decisions have been reached.
