asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they are aware that the statement by Lord Bellwin on 31st January (Col. 671) that Wandsworth Borough Council has found nothing wrong with the privatised collection of rubbish in the borough and that complaints cannot be justified is not in accordance with the report of the Borough Chief Auditor.

I refer the noble Lord to the statement I made on 31st January (Col. 671), which differs markedly from that which he now attributes to me. There is nothing in my statement of 31st January which is inconsistent with the findings of the Borough Chief Auditor.
