§ 35. Mr. Gwilym Robertsasked the Minister for Trade if he has now decided what steps he will take to prevent the sale of unsafe electrical goods and dangerous toys.
§ Dr. VaughanDomestic electrical equipment and toys sold in the United Kingdom have to comply with the requirements of safety regulations. I hope before long to announce proposals for strengthening the power under the general consumer safety legislation for enforcing such regulations. Meanwhile, I shall be making full use of existing prohibition powers whenever necessary to prevent the sale of dangerous goods. I recently served the first prohibition notice to be made under the Consumer Safety Act on a supplier of dangerous electrical appliances.
