HC Deb 21 February 1983 vol 37 c308W
35. Mr. Gwilym Roberts

asked the Minister for Trade if he has now decided what steps he will take to prevent the sale of unsafe electrical goods and dangerous toys.

Dr. Vaughan

Domestic electrical equipment and toys sold in the United Kingdom have to comply with the requirements of safety regulations. I hope before long to announce proposals for strengthening the power under the general consumer safety legislation for enforcing such regulations. Meanwhile, I shall be making full use of existing prohibition powers whenever necessary to prevent the sale of dangerous goods. I recently served the first prohibition notice to be made under the Consumer Safety Act on a supplier of dangerous electrical appliances.
