HC Deb 21 February 1983 vol 37 c359W
Mr. Foster

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many of the current year's school leavers will have £3.10 as the non-householder housing addition deducted from their supplementary benefit as a result of their parents being transferred to housing benefit in April.

Mr. Rossi

From April 1983, new supplementary benefit claimants aged 16 or 17 will not be eligible for the non-householder housing addition. This a corollary of the decision not to make deductions under housing benefit in respect of non-dependants aged 16 or 17 in the households of supplementary benefit claimants. It is not possible to say how many of this year's school leavers whose parents are on supplementary benefit in April 1983 will be affected by the change. However, existing claimants aged 16 or 17 will continue to receive the addition, so no-one will have money deducted from their benefit.
