HC Deb 21 February 1983 vol 37 cc359-60W
Mr. Mike Thomas

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether he will list in the Official Report each instance reported to his Department for the most recent 12 months for which information is available of a pharmaceutical product in its generic form being supplied to any pharmacy in the United Kingdom and being found to be of inferior quality or not to meet the quality specified under the procedures laid down in the Medicines Act for that chemical entity.

Mr. Geoffrey Finsberg

In the 12 months ending December 1982, 666 reports of medicinal products with actual or suspected defects of all kinds were received by the medicines division of the Department. Of these, some 46 have been indentified as relating to generic products which were found, on one or more aspects, not to meet the complete quality specification in the relevant product licences. These reports do not cover retail pharmacies as this information is not available centrally.
