HC Deb 21 February 1983 vol 37 c339W
55. Mr. Eggar

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will publish in the Official Report a table showing for each year since 1945 in the form of an annual index, output per person employed, indicating break periods caused by redefinitions of the index when appropriate.

Mr. Brittan

Output per person employed for the whole economy, in the form of an annual index, is published as a fully consistent series commencing in 1960 in "Economic Trends" Annual Supplement 1983 Edition. Estimates for 1978 onwards are liable to revision and later data will be published in the February 1983 issue ofEmployment Gazette. The index numbers in the following table for years from 1948 to 1959 are not as firmly based as those for later years and thus not published on a regular basis. Index numbers are not available for earlier years.
