HC Deb 21 February 1983 vol 37 c349W
Mr. Mike Thomas

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will publish in the Official Report the details of the two prosecutions relating to the advertising of drugs referred to in his reply to the right hon. Member for Stoke-on-Trent, South (Mr. Ashley) of 11 February, Official Report, c. 489.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

A person pleaded guilty at Ealing magistrates' court on 25 September 1981 to three charges of advertising medicinal products for purposes prohibited by regulations. A fine of £100 was imposed for each of the charges with costs of £50.

At Billericay magistrates' court on 12 March 1982 a person pleaded guilty to eight charges (five of them alleging sale and supply of medicinal products without a product licence and the remaining three alleging advertising offences contrary to S.I. 1978–41). The defendant asked for a further 50 advertising offences to be taken into consideration. The magistrates imposed a fine of £100 in respect of each of the first five offences and £50 in respect of each of the remaining three offences (total £650) and further ordered that the defendant pay £250 towards the prosecution costs.
