HC Deb 21 February 1983 vol 37 c362W
Sir Bernard Braine

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what conclusions were reached at the Antarctic mineral regime negotiations which took place in January in Wellington, New Zealand; whether further discussions with the consultative powers are planned; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Onslow

The recent consultations in Wellington about the Antarctic minerals regime were informal and no conclusions were reached. We hope that these discussions can be carried forward to meetings to be held in Canberra in April and in Bonn in July. The United Kingdom delegation will continue to work for international agreement governing the exploitation of oil and minerals in the Antarctic.
