asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they are aware that the Sun newspaper printed under the heading of "World Exclusive" an interview with Mrs. McKay, widow of Sgt. Ian McKay who was killed in the Falklands, and whether they will ask the Press Council to investigate reports that the interview was fictitious and did not take place.

We are aware of the newspaper report and the allegation concerning it. However, it would not be appropriate for the Government to ask the Press Council to investigate this or any allegation touching on conduct in which the Government do not themselves have a direct interest.
