§ Mr. Robert Hughesasked the Minister for Trade when he expects to bring into force section 55 of the Merchant Shipping Act 1970.
§ Mr. SproatThe Merchant Shipping Act 1970 (Commencement No. 9) Order 1982 (SI 1982 No. 1617) provides at Schedule 2 for section 55 of the 1970 Act, as amended and augmented by sections 32(2) and 28(7)(b) of the Merchant Shipping Act 1979, to come into force on 1 July 1983.

§ Mr. SproatThe following sections of the Merchant Shipping Act 1970 have still to be brought into force: sections 6, 36, 51, 55, 56, 57 (Part), 59 (Part), 87, 95(3) and also parts of section 100 and Schedules 2–5 mainly in so far as they effect amendments and repeals related to the sections referred to above.
