HL Deb 16 February 1983 vol 439 c326WA
Lord Kennet

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What are the advantages of the Isle of Man operating its own Shipping Register and to whom they accrue; and whether they are minded to agree to such a development.

Lord Elton

The Isle of Man already operates, with the agreement of the United Kingdom Government, a Shipping Register which accounts for some 0.2 per cent. of the total gross tonnage of ships registered in the British Islands. Registration fees in respect of these ships, which fly the British flag, accrue to the Isle of Man.
