HC Deb 15 February 1983 vol 37 c105W
Mr. John Grant

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what are the current numbers in the London borough of Islington of (a) unemployed school leavers, (b) unemployed 16 to 18-year-olds and (c) 16-year-olds on youth opportunities programme schemes.

Mr. Peter Morrison

In the area covered by the Holloway and Kings Cross jobcentres, which corresponds closely to the London borough of Islington, the number of unemployed school leavers under 18 years of age claiming benefit was 378 at January 1983. At October 1982, the latest date for which comprehensive figures by age are available, the number of unemployed claimants aged 18 years and under in the area was 1,475 of whom 482 were school leavers.

Between April 1982 and January 1983 the number of entrants to the youth opportunities programme in the borough of Islington was 670, of whom 380 were school leavers. An analysis by age of these numbers is not available.
