In May 1979 unemployed male claimants in Wales totalled 55,758. Unemployment figures on a comparable basis for Clwyd and the Shotton travel-to-work areas (where in May 1979 unemployed males registrants totalled 7,589 and 1,862 respectively) are available only from October 1982.
