HL Deb 14 February 1983 vol 439 c91WA
Lord Jenkins of Putney

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether, with reference to the answer by the Lord Elton on 28th January concerning Mr. Quyam Butt, he is aware that Mr. Butt's wife and four children have been evicted from their home by the military authorities in Pakistan and whether, in these circumstances of hardship and harassment, Her Majesty's Government will allow Mr. Butt's wife and family to join him in the United Kingdom while his permanent political asylum is being sorted out by the United Nations Commission for Refugees.

Lord Elton

Mr. Butt is under notice of refusal of leave to enter the United Kingdom. In these circumstances, there is no basis under the Immigration Rules to authorise the entry of his dependants to join him, and my right honourable friend the Home Secretary does not propose to do so.
