Mr. J. Enoch Powellasked the Secretary of State for Transport if he will arrange to publish on a quarterly basis the numbers of deaths in road accidents of drivers and front-seat passengers from 31 January 1983, compared with those in the corresponding quarter of the last year or years ending 30 January 1983.
§ Mrs. ChalkerIn respect of Great Britain, annual data for front-seat casualties in cars and light vans are already published in "Road Accidents Great Britain", copies of which are in the Library. Quarterly figures for periods following 31 January will be shown in future issues of the quarterly bulletin "Road Accidents and Casualties in Great Britain", together with comparable figures for earlier periods.
In Northern Ireland the seating position of casualties was recorded only from 1 January 1983. Information otherwise similar to that for Great Britain will be available direct from traffic division, Royal Ulster Constabulary.
