HC Deb 10 February 1983 vol 36 c454W
19. Mr. Soley

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland whether he will make a statement on the recent decision by Lear Fan to put half its work force in Northern Ireland on half-time working.

Mr. Adam Butler

The decision to introduce short-time working for part of the work force at the Northern Ireland plant of Lear Fan Ltd. is a matter for the company. However, the decision appears to have been a business-like one, taken for purely commercial reasons and based on the company's view that it should concentrate its resources over the next few months on the certification programme to enable LF 2100 aircraft to obtain an FAA certificate of airworthiness as soon as possible.
