§ Mr. Cryerasked the Attorney-General if he will make a statement on the progress towards implementation of the European convention on child custody.
§ The Solicitor-GeneralThe European convention has been signed but not yet ratified. Further progress must await the outcome of the following closely related work, viz. (1) consultations, now in progress, on whether the United Kingdom should accede to the Hague convention on the civil aspects of international child abduction, and (2) the delivery of a joint report by the two Law Commissions, now well advanced, on the reciprocal recognition and enforcement of custody orders within the United Kingdom.
