HC Deb 04 February 1983 vol 36 cc218-9W
Mrs. Renée Short

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what are the national figures for unclaimed (a) supplementary benefit and (b) other benefits for 1982, 1981 and 1980, respectively.

Mr. Newton

Comprehensive figures are not available for years later than 1979. Unclaimed supplementary benefit was then estimated to be £355 million and £55 million was estimated to be unclaimed in relation to other benefits, including one-parent benefit, for which a significant take-up problem existed. Unclaimed one-parent benefit was estimated to amount to £22 million in 1980–81 and £25 million in 1981–82.
