HC Deb 04 February 1983 vol 36 c203W
Mr. Andrew F. Bennett

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what aid is given to Third world countries such as Bangladesh to bulk purchase raw materials and equipment to enable them to manufacture essential drugs.

Mr. Rifkind

Applications for such aid are considered within the context of our programmes of aid to individual countries.

In the case of Bangladesh, for the current year we have agreed with the Government to allocate up to £3 million to private sector pharmaceutical industries in Bangladesh for the import of drugs and raw materials.

If the hon. Member is interested in other specific countries, perhaps he could let my right hon. Friend the Minister for Overseas Development know.
