HC Deb 04 February 1983 vol 36 c217W
Mr. Alfred Morris

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he is taking steps to advise disabled people who may be able to benefit from transferring from invalidity benefit to supplementary benefit at the ordinary rate; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Rossi

It would not be possible to predict with certainty whether any individual would be likely to gain from the course of action which the right hon. Member suggests. In any event, if a claimant to supplementary benefit were deliberately to forgo invalidity benefit to which he was entitled, it would be open to a benefit officer to continue to take the amount of invalidity benefit into account as a notional resource under regulation 4(2)(a) of the Supplementary Benefit (Resources) Regulations.
