HC Deb 03 February 1983 vol 36 c158W
4. Mr. Stanbrook

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will introduce legislation to confine the right to vote in United Kingdom elections to British citizens.

Mr. Waddington

We have no plans to do so. The Select Committee on Home Affairs, is, however, looking into aspects of the franchise as part of its enquiry into the Representation of the People Acts and we shall, of course, carefully consider any proposals they may make on this matter.
