HC Deb 03 February 1983 vol 36 c188W
Mr. Skinner

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what is the approximate number of homes in Scotland (a) deemed unfit for human habitation, (b) lacking basic amenities, (c) needing repairs costing £2,000 or more and (d) needing repairs costing £6,000 or more.

Mr. Allan Stewart

(a) It is estimated that at 31 March 1982 approximately 91,000 dwellings in Scotland were below the tolerable standard as defined under section 14 of the Housing (Scotland) Act 1974. The term "unfit" is not currently used in legislation covering Scotland.

(b) Information from the 1981 census indicates that 44,217 households in Scotland lack one or both of the standard amenities—bath (or shower) and inside WC.

(c) and (d) Statistics are not collected centrally in this form.
