HC Deb 02 February 1983 vol 36 c136W
14. Mr. Gregor MacKenzie

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will make a statement on the latest figures of unemployed people in Scotland.

Mr. Younger

On 9 December 1982, seasonally adjusted unemployment in Scotland stood at 313,800, with an unemployment rate of 14.4 per cent.

The best means of improving employment prospects, in Scotland as elsewhere, lies in holding firmly to our present strategy of controlling inflation within a sound financial framework and restoring competitiveness to industry.
