§ Mr. MooreProvisional estimates for 1983–84 suggest that there are 2–4 million single people over 65, or married couples where one or both are over 65, who will pay income tax. Their total income tax liability will be about £2.9 billion which is some 9 per cent. of the tax due in respect of income in 1983–84.
