HL Deb 21 December 1983 vol 446 c831WA
Lord Chitnis

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they are aware of the statement by British citizens working in Nicaragua that they would not wish concern for their safety to be used as a pretext for an invasion of that country, and why, in the event of such an invasion, they have entrusted the evacuation of British citizens to the United States Embassy in Managua rather than to the embassy of one of our EEC partners.

Baroness Young

We are aware of that statement. Contingency plans for evacuation of United Kingdom nationals include a number of options. Our embassy at San José is in close touch with the British community in Nicaragua.
