Lord Chitnis

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will give details of the RAF airlift of emergency supplies to Nicaragua in their background brief Crisis in Central America including the number and dates of such missions.

Baroness Young

In response to an appeal from the International Committee for the Red Cross for aid to Nicaragua, the RAF mounted an airlift of food supplies from Panama to Managua in July 1979. An RAF Hercules flew 19 sorties between 16th July and 29th July 1979, carrying a total of 225 tons of food to Nicaragua.
