HL Deb 21 December 1983 vol 446 c831WA
Baroness Jeger

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What is the present state of discussions regarding the position in Cyprus subsequent to the announcement about UDI in the north of the island.

Baroness Young

United Nations Security Council Resolution 541 called on all concerned not to to do anything to exacerbate the situation and renewed the mandate of the United Nations Secretary General to pursue his mission of good offices. We fully supported the resolution and stand ready to help the Secretary General in his efforts. We have proposed tripartite consultations of the Guarantor Powers and remain ready to play our part in them. We are in close touch with our major allies and the United Nations Secretary General about the Cyprus situation.
