HC Deb 20 December 1983 vol 51 cc189-90W
Mr. John David Taylor

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what proposals he has received for the provision of an old people's home in Portaferry, County Down; and what is the anticipated need in that area for such a home.

Mr. Chris Patten

The Department of Health and Social Services has no proposals before it at present from the eastern health and social services board for the provision of an old people's home at Portaferry although representations have been made on the subject by the Portaferry and district development association.

Neither the Department nor the eastern board considers that there is a pressing need for an old people's home in Portaferry in the near future, and no provision for such a home is included in the regional strategic plan for 1983–88.
