HC Deb 20 December 1983 vol 51 c131W
Mr. Bermingham

asked the Secretary of State for Energy if he will introduce legislation to provide for Government grants of 30 per cent. for firms investing in cavity wall insulation, draught-proofing, roof lining or ventilation controls.

Mr. Buchanan-Smith

Energy efficiency measures such as those specified in the question, and others, are highly cost effective and expect them to be adopted for the benefits they bring. My right hon. Friend the Secretary of State has launched a major campaign to draw the attention of firms to those benefits, and the energy efficiency office offers grants to help firms identify and assess measures they can adopt.

Mr. Bermingham

asked the Secretary of State for Energy if he will provide 30 per cent. grants for firms introducing new energy saving technology, such as heat pumps, electronic energy management systems or waste heat recovery systems.

Mr. Buchanan-Smith

Under the Department of Energy's energy conservation demonstration projects scheme we are providing 25 per cent. grants for firms wishing to install and demonstrate new energy saving technology. Projects are monitored and details of energy savings achieved are publicised and disseminated to potential investors in industry at large. Heat pumps, electronic energy management systems and waste heat recovery are among the technologies receiving support.
