HC Deb 20 December 1983 vol 51 c149W
Mr. Wheeler

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he proposes any change in the design or specification of the coins of the United Kingdom in 1984; and what are his proposals for the issue of commemorative coins and specimen or proof sets.

Mr. Ian Stewart

As the House was informed on 23 June 1983, a Scottish design variant of the £1 coin will be issued in 1984. I have no plans to alter the design or specification of any of the remaining coins in 1984.

It is proposed that the normal range of collectors' coins will be issued in 1984 and will include base metal proof and uncirculated coin sets, silver versions of the £1 Scottish variant coin in both normal and piedfort —double—sizes and the half-sovereign, sovereign and £5 gold proof coins.
