HC Deb 20 December 1983 vol 51 c129W
Mr. Steel

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he plans to amend the provisions of the British Nationality Act 1981 to give to a mother born, naturalised or registered in the United Kingdom or an existing colony, the same rights to pass her citizenship by descent to her legitimate children as those enjoyed by a father in the same position.

Mr. Waddington

Under the British Nationality Act 1981, women who are British citizens or British dependent territories citizens, can pass on their citizenship to their children born on or after 1 January 1983.
