HC Deb 19 December 1983 vol 51 c27W
Mr. Dalyell

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what request he has received from Lord Charteris for extra funds for the national heritage memorial fund; and what response he has made.

Mr. Macfarlane

I share with my noble Friend the Minister for the Arts responsibility for grant-in-aid payments to the national heritage fund. We recently met the chairman, Lord Charteris, at this request, to discuss the general financial position of the fund. While the amount of grant-in-aid to be paid in 1984–85 has not yet been agreed I indicated that future payments to the fund would seek to take account of its role and commitments as well as prevailing economic circumstances.
