HC Deb 19 December 1983 vol 51 c56W
Mr. Garrett

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many intensive units using highly technologically advanced therapy there are in the United Kingdom; where they are; and if he will appoint a specialist to his Department to advise on intensive therapy matters.

Mr. John Patten

There are intensive therapy units in most district general hospitals with appropriate facilities and equipment for the support of critical life functions such as ventilation or maintenance of cardiac output. Advice on intensive therapy matters is available to the Department from all the appropriate professional bodies.
