HC Deb 19 December 1983 vol 51 cc24-5W
Mr. Macmillan

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will make a statement on his review of the Historic Buildings Bureau; and whether the policy of charging both readers and advertisers for the quarterly list of historic buildings for sale has ensured its survival.

Mr. Macfarlane

Introduction of charges for the Historic Buildings Bureau quarterly list led to a very steep drop in the number of both readers and advertisers. In view of the evident lack of demand for a service already available in part from other organisations, I have decided that the January list will be the last. In future the Historic Buildings Bureau will concentrate resources on seeking new means for selected important buildings which appear to be at risk.
