HC Deb 19 December 1983 vol 51 c41W
8. Mr. Ioan Evans

asked the Secretary of State for Energy when he proposes to meet the chairman of the National Coal Board to discuss the future of the coal industry.

Mr. Giles Shaw

My right hon. Friend and I meet the chairman regularly to discuss all aspects of the coal industry.

23. Mr. Blair

asked the Secretary of State for Energy what is the value of the assets disposed of by the National Coal Board since 9 June; and what is the value of those assets currently earmarked for disposal.

Mr. Giles Shaw

The value of all assets disposed of by the National Coal Board and its subsidiary companies since 21 May was of the order of £19 million. This includes routine sales of land, vehicles and buildings, and also the sale of the board's interest in Associated Heat Services. The board has been asked to seek disposals, in addition to normal disposals of land, vehicles and buildings, worth £10 million during the coming year.

27. Mr. Ron Davies

asked the Secretary of State for Energy what are his latest estimates for the outturn of capital investment in the coal mining industry in Wales for 1983–84 and for capital investment for 1984–85.

Mr. Giles Shaw

This is a matter for the board and I will ask the chairman to write to the hon. Member.
